She was born July 30, 1912, in Mondovi, Wis. Charlotte graduated from high school and later attended secretarial school. Mrs. Briggs married William M. Briggs, who preceded her in death in 1985. Charlotte worked as a secretary at Van Hise Middle School, in Madison, Wis., retiring in 1984.
She was a member of the Bethany United Methodist Church, Madison, Wis., and the First United Methodist Church, Brazil. Charlotte was also a member of the El Shaddia Emmaus Community. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister and friend.
She was preceded in death by her mother Augusta Keyes, husband William M. Briggs, sister Trudy Lybeck, brothers Vincent Keyes and Malcom Keyes, and daughter Barbara Ann Briggs.
Survivors include her son William R. Briggs, Clay City, grandchildren Terri Moore and husband John, Center Point, Tom Hamilton and wife Eileen, Madisonville, Ky., Tim Hamilton, Brownsburg, Ind., Todd Hamilton, Dade City, Fla., Tracy Hamilton, Indianapolis, William A. Briggs, St. Petersburg, Fla., and George R. Briggs, Indianapolis, great-grandchildren Brandon Moore and wife Shawna, Breanna Moore, Orianna D. Hamilton, Michael Hamilton, Heather Hamilton, Jake Hamilton, and Kara Hamilton, sister Velma McGuigan and husband Frank, Madison, Wis., brother-in-law Robert Briggs, Tuscon, Ariz., sister-in-law Helen Briggs, Saint Paul, Minn., as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members throughout the United States.
Visitation will be at French Funeral Home, Friday, Dec. 3, 2010, from 5-7 p.m. Entombment will take place at Roselawn Memorial Park, Madison, Wis., at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Light House Mission, 1450 Wabash Ave., Terre Haute, Ind., 47807.
