VINCENNES -- The Patriots of Vincennes Rivet have earned their spot at the top of the Class A rankings this season, returning four starters from a team that lost just once and reached the state championship game before falling to Fort Wayne Canterbury.

Rivet hosted the Clay City Eels on Monday night, bringing an unbeaten record into the contest while the Eels had won four-of-five games coming into the road test.

On Monday night, Clay City remained close to the Patriots over the opening quarter before Rivet was able to put 23 points on the board in the second period on the way to a 66-44 victory.

The Eels hung tough with the Patriots, outscoring them 10-9 in the third period, but Rivet closed the game strong as well with a 22-12 advantage to seal the victory. Clay City got a 22-point effort from Carmela Roeschlein and Brielle Drelick contributed 13 points for the Eels who shot 43-percent from the field.
