Brazil Associate Chapter

The Brazil Associate Chapter met on Nov. 1, 2010, at 6:30 p.m., for dinner and meeting at the First Methodist Church. After the delicious meal of Turkey Tetrazzini, pea casserole and roasted vegetables, rolls and dessert catered by the Sarah Circle of the First United Methodist Church.

The guest speaker for the evening was SOS Director Jennifer Chamberlain and her associate Heather Hopkins. They spoke of the 1,800 children living in Clay County at or below the poverty level. They presently have around 400 on their roster.

They meet on Saturday mornings, Tuesdays in West Central Village and Thursdays at their principle location. They are in the process of renovating the Old Junior High School and gymnasium. They are still meeting in the basement of the Forest Avenue Church until they get completely moved. Among the activities they hold are skateboarding, tutoring, providing a Thanksgiving dinner on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. They are currently organizing a shoe giveaway for sizes 4 and up.

They are also making Christmas stockings to be given away on Dec. 18. They showed a informational video depicting the quality of life of the children they are trying to help.

They also explained their Sponsorships for some of their Kids Club members. Another project is providing a Transitional House for those families in need of shelter due to misfortunes.

The Business meeting was opened by President Sandra Henderson at 7:50 with the Tri Kappa Song and Verse. The roll was called and the minutes the October meeting were read and approved. The treasurer's report was given by Kim Stearley. A bill of $11 from Sugar & Spice was presented to be paid. Susie moved that it be paid, Jacque seconded the motion. The motion was passed.

Items for the humane shelter were to be delivered by Julie Houston. Ellen Packard gave a report on the Eastside Angels.

Under new business. Shoes and socks for SOS are to be brought to the December meeting. It was suggested that dark colors be purchased. We are also to bring Christmas stockings for SOS and personal items for the Leap Center adults to the Dec. 6 meeting. It was decided that the membership would continue to contribute the sponsorship of our SOS girl this year. Jacque Reberger took a vote on the location for the December meeting. It was decided to meet at 6:30 at the Lake House Restaurant on Dec. 6. The hostesses for the December meeting are Jacque Reberger, Delores Thomas, Janice Dark and Dabren Dark. The Active Chapter invited the associates to their party on Nov. 29. Location to be announced. Those Associates planning on attending are Susie Freeman, Mary Ann Froderman, Mary Anne Gossett, LuAnn Grey, Margie Cauldwell, Sandy Henderson, and Jacque Reberger.

The meeting adjourned at 8:35 with the closing verse. The Silent Auction winners were Mary Anne Gossett and Ellen Packard. The Active Chapter's Nut Sale form was passed around the membership.
