Marilyn Waldorf Eckerman, 79, Poland, passed away Dec. 9, 2010 at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis.
She was born Jan. 3, 1931, to Harry O. Waldorf and Eunice E. (Asbury) Waldorf.
She graduated from Sullivan High School and later graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Education.
She married Lewis "Lew" Eckerman July 2, 1955, who preceded her in death on June 10, 2003.
Marilyn taught at several schools within Clay Community School Corporation mostly, however, Clay City Elementary. Teaching was a passion for Marilyn returning several times after retirement to teach and substitute teach.
Marilyn was a member of the Poland Zion United Church of Christ and was involved with the Sullivan Tri Kappa, Indiana University Tri Delta and was a member of the Cataract Yacht Club.
Marilyn enjoyed gardening, playing golf and mushroom hunting with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and sister Jean Harrison.
Survivors include her children Pam Eckerman, Poland, Steven Eckerman (Karen), Elkhart, Ind., Mike Eckerman (April), Warrensburgh, Mo., Susan Workman (Rick), Cloverdale, and Jeff Eckerman (Cathy), Avon, grandchildren Rick and Spencer Workman, Joe and Annie Eckerman, and Josie and Jenna Eckerman, special nephews and nieces Tom Harrison (Suzanne) and Tim Harrison, California, and Kris Hancock (David), Sullivan, including many members of the Adam and Avelis families, and sisters-in-law Helen Mary Avelis and Katherine Adam.
Services will be at Poland Zion Church of Christ Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Poland Zion Cemetery.
Visitation will be at French Funeral Home Sunday, from 5-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
