Clay City falls short at the free throw line in Bloomfield

BLOOMFIELD -- The Clay City Eels trailed by just two points heading into the final quarter on the road at Bloomfield on Friday night, but the Cardinals were able to close out the victory with a 15-8 edge in the final period of a 45-36 Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference victory.

The Cardinals held a 21-7 edge in fouls and that helped Bloomfield to a 16-to-two edge in made free throws in the game. Bloomfield also dominated on the boards by a 37-19 count as both Payton Karl and Drake Vandeventer pulled down seven for the Cardinals. Clay City got seven boards from Tyler Bridgewater, but he was held to just two points in the loss.

Jake Tiefel led the Eels with 12 points and both Ben Denker and Josh Decker added seven points apiece. Justin Rodgers and Mark Grubbs each had four.

The Eels (1-2 overall, 0-2 SWIAC) travel to Eminence tonight at 6 p.m.
