Meteorologist: Residents can expect 'yucky' conditions

Thursday, December 16, 2010

David Wire
Clay County residents can expect the snow on the ground to stay for a while.

WTHI News 10 Meteorologist David Wire told The Brazil Times there was also a possibility of more snow falling by next Thursday and into Friday.

"It's too early to make a call on amounts," Wire said. "But this is something I've been looking toward for a while."

Wire said he expected temperatures to remain below freezing through the weekend.

"We'll have colder than average temperatures for the weekend," he said. "It's only going to tap out at the upper 20s.

"We'll get some sunshine this weekend, but the snow probably won't melt. It will not get above freezing until possibly late next week."

He added conditions could get "sloppy."

"This snow is not going anywhere anytime soon," Wire said. "We're now getting to the point to where it's getting kind of yucky. It's still going to be slick."

Wire said patterns were calling for another one-half inch of snow to fall through the evening, which could "cause more headaches" Friday morning.

"It's not going to be any worse than what it was (Thursday) morning," Wire said.

"But it will get cold and (motorists) still should take their time."

The National Weather Service based in Indianapolis called for highs in the mid to upper 20s through Wednesday. In addition, the service predicted a 20-percent chance of snow showers Monday.

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas, although it will probably warm up and we will have a muddy one.
