WEST TERRE HAUTE -- White Violet Center for Eco-Justice, a ministry of the Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, has joined with the Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association (AOBA) to participate in the Christmas Season's Sock Brigade program.
White Violet Center and the national alpaca breeders and owners are participating with BentStar Project LTD to provide alpaca socks for the winter to United States military troops. White Violet Center has designated its socks for the 101st Airborne soldiers serving in Afghanistan.
Socks may be purchased at White Violet Center or at The Gift Shop at Providence Center, both at St. Mary-of-the-Woods, or tax-deductible donations may be made to cover the purchase of socks.
Socks will be sold at cost, which is $12 per pair.
The Sisters of Providence have a herd of more than 60 alpacas, and the fleece is harvested and processed for use in making a variety of alpaca garments.
