WEST TERRE HAUTE -- The Sisters of Providence of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods have announced a schedule of Christmas season liturgies and services to celebrate and honor the birth of Jesus.
All services are open to the public and to people of all faith traditions.
All gatherings are in the Church of the Immaculate Conception unless otherwise noted.
The Christmas Vigil will be from 7-8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 24. Sisters of Providence and the wider community will gather for a reflective prayer service that includes scripture readings, prayer, instrumental carols, singing of carols and candle lighting.
Christmas Day will be celebrated with Eucharistic Liturgy at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 25. A prelude of instrumental carols and singing will begin at 10:30 a.m.
The Feast of the Holy Family will be celebrated Sunday, Dec. 26, with Eucharistic Liturgy at 11 a.m. Christmas Season Vespers will be offered in St. Joseph Chapel in Owens Hall at 4:30 p.m., the same day.
The Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, mother of God, will be celebrated with Eucharistic Liturgy at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 1.
Eucharistic Liturgy for the Solemnity of the Epiphany of the Lord will be at 11 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 2. Christmas Season Vespers again will be offered at 4:30 p.m., in St. Joseph Chapel.
Eucharistic Liturgy for the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord will be at 11 a.m., Sunday, Jan. 9. Christmas Season Vespers will be at 4:30 p.m., in St. Joseph Chapel, which will close the liturgical Christmas Season.
The Sisters of Providence, a congregation of nearly 400 women religious, have their motherhouse at St. Mary-of-the-Woods, located northwest of Terre Haute.
Saint Mother Theodore Guerin founded the Sisters of Providence at St. Mary-of-the-Woods in 1840. Today, Sisters of Providence minister in 19 states, the District of Columbia, Taiwan and China.
