Some local students will keep their hands warm while it snows.

Selected students at Meridian Elementary will receive mittens, gloves and hats, thanks in part to Harris Bank, Brazil.

"Being part of the local community, Harris Bank customers and employees want to make sure that we give back to the community," Bank Manager Lena Khudayeva said. "Especially to the children most in need around the holidays."

A collection began shortly after Thanksgiving and, according to Meridian Elementary Principal Karen Phillips, approximately 20-25 students will receive the items.

"We are very pleased and thankful for the donations made by Harris Bank," Phillips said. "The items will be distributed today and it will be at the discretion of the teachers."

This was the second year for the collection and Khudayeva is already excited next year.

"We are looking forward to next year and being able to provide the community with items to keep the little ones warm," she said.
