Dale DeWayne Shillings, 55, Greencastle, left this world surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2010, after a long battle with lung cancer.
He was born Feb. 23, 1955, to Alva and Edna (Radar) Shillings. Dale was a 1974 graduate of Greencastle High School. On Aug. 25, 1978, he married Vicky (Scaggs) Shillings and she survives.
Also surviving are his children Ronald (Chastine) Shillings, Greencastle, and Bradley (Carrie) Shillings, Rockville, and daughter Melissa (Neil) O'Hair, Bainbridge. He is also survived by his loving grandchildren Ronald Dale, Cori, Amy Jo, Glen, Colton, Cailin, Morgan, Logan Shillings, Douglas and Owen O'Hair, plus one more grandchild due in April. His mother Edna Shillings, one brother Lyle (Sharlene) Shillings, Brazil, mother-in-law Roberta Scaggs, "adopted" daughter Leticia (Tish) Roberts, and several nieces and nephews.
Dale was a dedicated NASCAR fan of Jimmie Johnson, loved Clydesdale horses, and his two puppies J.J. and Dixie. He was employed by Heartland Automotive prior to his illness.
Preceded in death by his father Alva Shillings and father in law Glen Scaggs.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010, at 1 p.m., at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Little Walnut Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m., Monday, Dec. 27.
Per Dale's request, he would like everyone who visits the funeral home to come dressed casual as he knew you (blue jeans and hats).
