He had been a resident of Bethesda Gardens from 2003 to July 2010.
He was born Feb. 13, 1925, in Brazil, the son of Roy Evans and Ruth Springer Evans.
He graduated from Brazil High School, class of 1942.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He began working for AT&T following the war. He attended one year at Purdue University and resumed his job at AT&T as a facilities engineer. He served the company primarily in the Atlanta, Ga., area, but also worked in New Jersey. He came back to the Brazil area due to health issues in 2003.
Roy enjoyed fishing and watching football and basketball on TV. He was a member of the North Metro Baptist Church, Lawrence, Ga.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Nelson Evans and Gerald Evans, and sisters Mary Belle Evans and Margaret Evans Deal.
Survivors include his brother Richard Evans and wife Pat, Brazil, brother Phil Evans, Naples, Fla., sisters Josephine Shuck, Brownsburg, and Norma Childress, Lowell, Ind., sister-in-law Betty Evans, Brazil, many nieces and nephews and extended family.
Services will take place at 1 p.m., Thursday, at French Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Thursday.
