Silver Gloves Boxing Tournament in Terre Haute

TERRE HAUTE -- Boxing has been a tradition in west-central Indiana, dating back decades.

The tradition will continue with the Regional Silver Gloves Championship, which will take place at the Ryves Youth Center, 1356 Locust St., Terre Haute, Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 15-16.

Cost is $10 per day.

Boxers from the five states, including Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Kentucky, will compete for the title of champion in the Junior (10-11-year-old), Intermediate (12-13-year-old), and Senior (14-15-year-old) divisions. All weight classes will participate in 5-pound weight increments.

Winners in each division will have the chance to advance to the national competition in February.

Matches will takes place beginning at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 15. Thirty to 35 matches are expected on both days with an additional match taking place at 10 a.m., Monday, Jan. 17.

Tickets for the event will be available at the door or in advance.

Sponsorship levels are available starting at $50. All sponsorship levels include tickets and a listing in the program.
