Merry, James David and I rang in the New Year together.
The little guy managed to stay up throughout the evening long enough to see 2011 come to life.
His father did as well. And that was something of an accomplishment.
In the past few years, I have not been awake for the New Year.
But this year, I felt it was very special.
I purposely stayed up as long as I could to ring in the year with James David and his mother.
It meant everything to his mother.
For now, James David is still a bit oblivious to what is going on.
And yet, he is so aware of his surroundings.
With each passing day, he is learning more and more.
He is incredibly aware of who his mother and father are.
Each day he wakes up, whether it's Merry or myself who pick him up, he's got a huge smile on his face.
And it makes days bearable.
I can't wait until he utters his first word.
Will it be dad?
In fact, I'm starting a pool and placing my bet on mom as his first word.
It practically melts your heart when he looks at his mother. He flashes this great big grin and coos because he recognizes her.
It really is special.
Even though James David has been around for almost only three full months, it's getting more and more difficult to remember what life was like without him.
For 2011, I'm sure there will be so many new experiences for James David, Merry and myself.
He'll experience crawling. Perhaps walking.
He may start speaking soon.
I really don't know.
But for me and 2011, I'm looking forward to all of these moments.
I hope I'm there for all of them.
I hope I don't miss a moment.
And that's my resolution.
