Brazil City Water Department officials were busy Monday morning.
At approximately 6:40 a.m., the department received a call regarding a water leak near Sherfey Street and National Avenue.
Water Department associate Anthony Moon told The Brazil Times there were two possible scenarios. He said there was a 4-inch main located on Sherfey Street and an 8-inch main on National Avenue that could be leaking, adding the department planned to dig into Sherfey Street to check the 4-inch main first.
"We're hoping it's the 4-inch (main)," Moon said. "This is kind of a bad one."
Moon said the department had to call state officials to receive clearance to dig to the 8-inch line off U.S. 40 if it was that line.
He added the department received the OK to dig into National Avenue if needed.
Brazil Mayor Ann Bradshaw told The Times no boil order had been issued as of yet. In addition, she said Sherfey Street to Jackson Street was temporarily closed.
"We have good crews," Bradshaw said.
Officials said the investigation could take all day.
