He was born Aug. 21, 1923, in Terre Haute, to John Charles Zimmerman and Mabel Hunter Zimmerman.
He retired from the Quality Control Department of Tredegar Film Products in 1985.
He was preceded in death by his wife Jane Fell Zimmerman in 2006.
Survivors include his daughters Carol Pell and her husband Ron, Texas, Patty Dold and her husband Dwight, Texas, Mary Beth Zimmerman, Brazil, and Brenda Hollowell, Brazil, sons Jim Zimmerman Jr. and his wife Debbie, Brazil, and Mike Zimmerman and his wife Sheila, Brazil, grandchildren Jimmy Pell and his wife Glenda, Cindy Shannon and her husband Mike, Leslie Kiere and her husband Mike, David Dold and his wife Diane, Tricia Grimshaw and her husband Joe, Kevin Zimmerman, Evan Whitman and his wife Alison, Benjamin Whitman, Joe Whitman, Logan Whitman, Caleb Whitman, Aaron Zimmerman, Kara Tannehill and her husband Clay, Megan Rubeck and her husband Scot, and Landon Hollowell, 18 great-grandchildren, and brother Fred Zimmerman and his wife Ethel.
James was also preceded in death by his parents, brother John Zimmerman, and sister Joan Wilson.
Jim was an avid bowler and golfer. He loved spending time with his family, reading and working in his garden.
He particularly enjoyed eating out with family and friends.
One of Jim's greatest joys was playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Before the passing of his beloved wife, he enjoyed traveling with her, Fred and Ethel.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, in Callahan and Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., Terre Haute, with Mark Grayless officiating.
Burial will be in Summit Lawn Cemetery, Brazil.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011, in the funeral home.
