As another winter blast swept through Clay County Friday morning, local emergency response personnel found themselves in the middle of mayhem.
More than 14 property damage accidents, including two with minor injuries, were reported to Clay County E911 Dispatch Friday.
With members of the Clay County Sheriff's Department responding to most of the accidents occurring throughout the county, Brazil City Police Department officials confirmed to The Brazil Times officers worked one accident at the intersection of State Road 59 and United States 40.
However, as darkness came and temperatures dropped again, officials kept a watchful eye on the roadways.
Meanwhile, six emergency response agencies battled cold temperatures to fight a structure fire shortly before 11 a.m.
Firefighters from Jackson, Posey, Center Point and Van Buren Township volunteer fire departments, along with assistance from Clay County Search and Rescue and the Clay County Sheriff's Department responded to a residence located near 6703 North Murphy Ave.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered the home was fully engulfed in flames that within an hour caused the roof to collapse.
Officials confirm the Indiana State Fire Marshal's Office has been contacted to help determine the cause of the fire. No information is available regarding the cost of damages to the home, which is considered a total loss.
