GOSHEN, Ind. (AP) -- Republican Rep. Marlin Stutzman says his staff is upgrading security practices after working closely recently with the staff of injured Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

He says they worked together recently as his staff moved into Giffords' former congressional offices in Washington, D.C., during the transition of majority parties in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Stutzman tells The Goshen News that staff members at his offices throughout northeastern Indiana district are working with local law enforcement to revise security practices for his public appearances.

Stutzman says the changes are as much about protecting the public as it is for him and his staff.

Arizona Democrat Giffords remains hospitalized in Tucson after a gunman injured her and 12 other people and killed six during a public appearance Saturday.
