Tucker adjusting to new duties

The New Year started with some added responsibility for one Clay Community Schools Administrator.

Taking over the position of Interim Superintendent, Kim Tucker has expanded her responsibilities from curriculum, instruction and evaluation of academic programs to being involved in facilities, budget, personnel and working in a more direct capacity with the Clay Community School Board of Trustees.

"The role of superintendent is one that cannot be learned except through on-the-job training," Tucker said. "This first week has been interesting, albeit somewhat overwhelming in terms of coming up to speed with the responsibilities."

Tucker has been with Clay Community Schools since 2008. Prior to her time with CCSC was principal of Owen Valley High School, Assistant Principal at Avon Middle School and worked in Spencer-Owen and Richland-Bean Blossom Community School Corporations.

Though Tucker is enjoying the challenges of her new role, she still has passion for the curriculum and the students' success.

"Although my previous primary mission has been to support my fellow educators within the corporation so that we may expect our students academic achievement will increase," she said. "It is now imperative that I provide the governing leadership and the confidence that the board has seen fit to place in me as the interim superintendent.

"I expect to learn a great deal in working with the board in this new capacity," she added.

The next meeting of the Clay Community School Board of Trustees will be at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 10, in the media center at North Clay Middle School.
