SULLIVAN -- With the postseason on the horizon, the Northview wrestling team competed at the Sullivan Winter Duals and came away with wins in four-of-five dual matches on Saturday.

The Knights lost only to Gibson Southern, 39-28, while winning matches against Robinson, Ill. (46-21), Lawrenceville, Ill. (60-23), Sullivan (54-15) and Evansville Harrison (69-6).

The Knights had five champions at the tourney as Skyler Hall went 5-0 at 119 pounds, Austin Bell won all five matches at 130, Larry Shaffer was unbeaten in five matches, Brandon Pleake was 5-0 at 189 and Beau Judd won all four of his matches at 285.

"Skyler Hall was impressive, the best he has wrestled all year. He beat Alex Hirsch of Gibson Southern in triple overtime. He rode him out for the win. Then he beat Nate Sullivan of Sullivan 9-3," coach Dan Mikesell said. "Austin Bell also went 5-0. As his conditioning improves, he looks to be getting back into the groove of wrestling well."

Shaffer won all five of his matches at 160 pounds for the Knights, who finished the dual match season at 17-7 overall.

"Larry Shaffer won all five matches, four of them via fall. He was solid all day. Brandon Pleake wrestled well all day and earned a tough fought victory over Dan Skie of Evansville Harrison 8-5 in the last round to earn the championship," Mikesell said. "Beau Judd went 4-0. He wrestled very well and was aggressive all day. I substituted Justin Sampson in the first round against Robinson, Ill. and he pinned Tanner Keeler. It is a nice luxury to have a back up like Justin when Beau is not at 100 percent. Beau (Judd) had a forfeit, a 7-1 win over Kendall Monk of Sullivan and then two falls."

The Knights also got a four-win afternoon from Shane Ryan at 103 pounds and Aaron See bounced back from a loss to post four victories.

Nathan Duregger went 3-2 at the Sullivan Winter Duals for the Knights.
"As a team we looked pretty good. I thought we out hustled most of the teams and we looked to be in better shape. We lost a tough one to Gibson Southern, it could've went either way," Mikesell said. "They got a big upset win at 215 and that took the wind out of our sails. Aaron (See) bounced back and finished the day strong after the setback. He pinned Justin Melton of Lawrenceville in the second period. He lost to him last year so that was something positive to take from the day. "

Caleb Nicosin won three matches at 112 pounds, Baylor Girton (140 pounds) also won three matches along with Brody Girton at 152 and Nathan Duregger was 3-2 at 171.

Trey Boor, Zach Mishler and Darrick Mitchell each won a match at the tourney.

The Knights compete on Saturday at the WIC Tourney in an effort to defend their conference crown at 10 a.m.
