CLAY CITY -- The Clay City girl's basketball team is heading into the stretch run of the regular season on the right path.

On Monday night the Eels took another step towards a conference championship by defeating visiting North Daviess 55-32. The win was Clay City's fourth straight this month and improves the Class A 14th-ranked Eels to 6-0 in the Southwestern Indiana Athletic Conference.

Clay City didn't give the Cougars a chance to get settled in the game as the Eels jumped out to a 10-point advantage after the first quarter, 17-7. The Eels were able to continue that momentum in the second period, extending the lead to 31-14 and cruised home to the victory.

Carmela Roeschlein scored 20 points in the win and Brielle Drelick added 17. Abby Reed tallied five points, Madison Booe had four along with Michaela Riggs and Allie Miller contributed three. Callie Dayhuff and Danielle Gossage each had a point.

The Eels improve to 12-6 overall, which sets up a big Thursday battle with Class 3A No. 9 ranked Sullivan, which is 15-3 overall.
