The person that has been clearing the snow, off the streets in Harmony, is J.C. Riddell. I did not know who was doing the work when I put in a thank you last week.
I ran into Janice Gooch at Kroger and she gave me the correct info. Thanks to Janice and a second thank you to J.C.
Thanks to my neighbors who have also helped during the snow.
Neighbor Rick Hester cleared several driveways with his tractor last week.
Brian Mathis has shoveled a path to the mailbox 2-3 times during the bad weather.
Neighbor boys Jay, Stone, and Rowdy came over with their shovels last week. I paid the boys with M & M's and all my Christmas candy stash.
Double thanks for helping to dispose of all the candy temptations.
Good Neighbor Patty Escott brought over the mail on one particularly bitter day. I just may have to bake up a batch of cookies for all these good folks.
Anyone who has been interested in learning more about Habitat for Humanity will have a chance on Jan. 27.
An informational meeting will be held at the Brazil Library starting at 7 p.m. Folks wanting to help can learn what is expected of them and how to apply to be a volunteer.
Melanie Brown at the Clay County Extension Office reported that the Food Share Program was a bust for this area. At least for now, no truck will come to Indiana.
It had been hoped that Wisconsin would take over this route but it was not cost effective for them. Currently, they only truck as far south as Chicago.
If anyone knows of another program that offers fresh fruits, veggies, and meats at reduced costs, call Melanie.
Melanie called around and tried very hard to get the Food Share plan going after the Peoria, Ill. Distribution was closed.
She had planned to have a cooking demonstration on each pick-up day.
It would have been such a good program if it could have been arranged.
I also called the Extension Office to get more info on the upcoming Landscaping Class to be held at the 4-H Fairgrounds.
Only one other person has signed up for the Jan. 29 program. It will probably be cancelled. They need a total of 10 people. If anyone else is ready to think spring, call the Extension Office and sign up for the Landscaping Class for Saturday from 9 a.m.-noon.
The office also keeps a list of folks interested in Master Gardener classes and will send out a flyer when these are offered. Often these classes are filled right away. It is good to get your name on the mailing list so you find out early when something of interest is being offered. The Master Gardener series is offered at Owen Valley this year.
Gordon Food Service (GFS) in Terre Haute is offering a discount percentage to churches based on the amount of food purchased there during the year.
The folks that shop there for personal use can also assign credit to HUMC and build up the percentage.
This helps with our food purchases for various dinners held at the church.
Be sure to tell GFS that you attend Harmony UMC.
Harmony United Methodist Women will meet in Fellowship Hall on Monday, Jan. 24 at 7 p.m.
President Sheila TerMeer has to get our annual membership report mailed to the UMW before this meeting.
She called to see if I had our original charter date for the paperwork. I don't. We think our framed charter may have been taken down from the wall when the bathroom and closet were remodeled.
If anyone has the information, please give Sheila a call.
All ladies attending Monday nights meeting are asked to bring a snack to share. Starting next month, we will have volunteers to do the lesson and act as hostess.
HUMC received a card telling us about the African student we are sponsoring through Operation Classroom. HUM Women are also sponsoring a child. Hopefully, that information will be available at our meeting on Monday.
Harmony United Methodist Church will be hosting a Stewardship Dinner on Sunday, Jan. 23, starting at noon.
Everyone is asked to bring a salad, veggie, or dessert for the Pitch-In Dinner. Meat, potato, drinks, and table service will be provided.
I have been working on getting materials ready for the bulletin boards in Fellowship Hall. Three are bare and need to be ready by Sunday. I won't be a very good steward if people have to look at bare cork and leftover staples.
Betty Julbert and I made a mad dash to Terre Haute after church on Sunday to get ink cartridges for my computer. Red Lobster was so close to Staples that we just had to stop in for lunch, too.
Suzanne Neier has volunteered to help me put up the board designs on Thursday. Of course, I have to have the pieces printed out by then. I usually print out the scripture and picture at home then assemble it all at church.
Now Jesse and Kevin are saying 3-6 inches of snow for Thursday. I am such a woosie and hibernate, like a bear, when the weather gets bad.
We need a prayer or two to brave the snow and get everything ready for Stewardship Sunday.
Stewardship Sunday will be celebrated on the day designated as Sanctity of Life Sunday. Ann Coker from the Clay County Crisis Pregnancy Center will be the featured speaker.
Everyone is invited to hear her message during Sunday morning Worship Service. And stay for dinner.
HUMC will have a special guest on Feb. 13, too.
Ansil Harpold from A.R.M. Ministries will do a one-man concert during Worship Service.
He will stay to share his experiences during Sunday School. A.R.M. Ministries is a prison outreach program.
United Methodist Men from throughout the county will meet on Saturday, Jan. 22, at 8 a.m.
They will have breakfast at Carbon UMC. All men are invited to attend.
