United Way Campaign Chair Tim Sturgess, Board President Rick Burger, and Executive Director Troy Fears will be on the roof of Baesler's Market, Terre Haute, for the event. They will brave the elements for 12 hours in an effort to raise $20,000 and reach the overall $1.8 million 2010 campaign goal.
Last year, with the support of the community, the local United Way was able to make a big push toward attaining the campaign goal with United Day for United Way as all local radio, television stations, outdoor media, businesses, restaurants and print media joined together.
There are more than 72 donation locations set up for Friday's event. Business partners throughout the Wabash Valley will assist the United Way in the one-day media blitz asking Wabash Valley residents to contribute at one of the collection locations. The following is a list of donation locations: Angell's Food Center (Sullivan), Baesler's, Clark County Title Company (Marshall, Ill.), Fazoli's, Fifth Third Bank (eight locations), First Financial Bank (28 locations), Harrison College, Indiana State University, ISU Federal Credit Union, Ivy Tech Community College, JC Penney, Macy's, Old National Bank (eight locations), Regions Bank, Riddell National Bank (two locations), Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, Terre Haute Savings Bank (five locations), Walmart (Brazil), Walmart (Clinton), Walmart (both Terre Haute locations), Walgreens (three Terre Haute locations, and Walgreens in Brazil.
In addition, residents can help by dining out. A portion of the sales from patron's meals at 21 local restaurants will be donated to United Way.
The following is a list of restaurants involved in Dine United: A Bit O' Britain Tea Room, Bob Evans Farms Restaurant, Carosi's Italian Restaurant, Dawgleg at Idle Creek, Gerhardt's, M. Mogger's Restaurant and Pub, Navarro's, Patrick's Restaurant, Wabash Valley Pizza Huts, Rick's Smokehouse and Grill, Roly Poly, The Saratoga, The Spaghtti and Sub House, Clabber Girl Bakeshop, Logan's Ribeye and Beef O'Brady's.
Gift cards and/or refreshments will be donated by Subway, Jimmy John's, Sonic, T.G.I. Fridays and Starbucks.
Local celebrities will also pump gas and wash car windows at Baesler's throughout the day for United Day for United Way. Gas will be discounted on the day of the event and all donations will benefit the United Way.
Those wishing to donate via text message may do so by texting UWWV to 20222 on cell phones. Each message donates $5 to the United Way of the Wabash Valley.
