BOWLING GREEN -- A 17-year old female juvenile was injured in a two-vehicle accident involving a school bus Monday morning.

According to E911 Dispatch officials, members of the Clay County Sheriff's Department, Bowling Green Volunteer Fire Department and TransCare were dispatched to an accident at the intersection of County Road 550 East and County Road 100 South near Bowling Green at approximately 7:46 a.m., Monday.

Clay Community School Corporation officials also arrived at the scene of the accident to assist authorities.

Deputy Casey Judge told The Brazil Times the minor female driver of a passenger vehicle was traveling northbound on County Road 550 East when she observed an oncoming bus and attempted to stop. Officials stated the driver slid approximately 50 yards before colliding into front of the bus, causing the collision.

Officials confirmed that due to the amount of damage during the collision the car was a total loss, while the axel of the school bus was potentially broken. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

The driver of the passenger vehicle was taken by ambulance for non-life threatening injuries, which may have included a broken foot, but have not been verified to authorities.

As per school policy, the school bus driver and 21 student passengers were transferred to a new bus after reporting no injuries. After arriving at school, nurses performed preliminary examinations on all students to verify no injuries and parents were notified.

No further information is available at this time.

Ok. Someone please help me out here - given the sign in the photo above, and the accident photo and description: "the minor female driver of a passenger vehicle was traveling northbound on County Road 550 East when she observed an oncoming bus and attempted to stop. Officials stated the driver slid approximately 50 yards before colliding into front of the bus, causing the collision."

If the bus was coming toward the vehicle and they were traveling on the same road going opposite directions .. I don't understand how the accident happened. I'm missing something, obviously.

Anyone?

They were approaching each other and then hit head-on.
