The following is a list of upcoming events provided to The Brazil Times:


The 2011 Clay County Aspiring Artist Calendars are currently available.

Those interested in purchasing a calendar should call The Brazil Times at 446-2216, Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

The calendars cost $5.


The Brazil Times' Circulation Department wanted to inform readers it has not and will not make phone calls to residents asking to update their subscriptions.

Rather than phoning subscribers about taking the paper, The Times sends out mailers. In addition, if The Times elects to pursue a phone campaign to add additional subscribers, it will inform readers in advance.

Classes Available

The Clay County Health Department has available free smoking cessation counseling and smoking cessation products.

Diabetes Classes

The Brazil Senior Citizens Center and the Clay County Health Department have teamed together to offer diabetes education classes at the center.

The meetings will take place on the first Friday of the month at noon.

The next meeting is scheduled for Feb. 4.


The Clay County Historical Society has closed the doors of the museum for the winter months.

The museum will re-open March 14.

There will be no membership meeting until March 7, 2011.

Program Slated

Clay County Health Beginnings CHIP (Coronary Health Improvement Program) -- a Lifestyle Medicine Program -- will be offered by the Maple Center for Integrative Health at the Staunton Community Center.

The event will be offered Tuesday and Friday evenings beginning Monday, Feb. 7, for two weeks and then the four following Tuesdays at the Staunton Community Center, from 5-7 p.m., for eight weeks.

Cost is $145 per person or $210 per couple.

'Salute to Disney'

The Community Theatre of Clay County will be performing "A Salute to Disney," today and Saturday.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students up to 15-years in age.

Dessert will be served at 6:30 p.m., with the show beginning at 7:30.

United Day For United Way

United Day for United Way has been scheduled to take place from 6 a.m.-6 p.m., today.

Bald Eagle Day

Duke Energy will conduct its 16th Bald Eagle Viewing Day Saturday, at its Cayuga electric power plant along the Wabash River just north of Terre Haute.

The event is free and open to the public and will take place from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Reservations are not necessary.

Special Meeting

The Clay County Commissioners will conduct a special meeting at 10:45 a.m., Monday, in the Commissioner's Courtroom at the Clay County Courthouse.

Meeting Moved

The Center Point Town Council has rescheduled its February meeting.

The council normally meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 6 p.m.

However, the February meeting has been moved to 9 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 5.

All meetings take place at Center Point Town Hall.

All are invited to attend.

Varied Soup Available

Those interested in stocking up on homemade soup for a Super Bowl party should take note the Carbon United Methodist Church will be selling chili, vegetable soup and ham and bean soup Saturday, Feb. 5.

The event will take place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at the church.

Soups will cost $4 per quart.

Prom Dress Sale

The Parke County 4-H Fair Board will host a prom dress sale from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 5.

The event will take place in the Parke County Extension Office Meeting Room, located on the Parke County Fairgrounds, Rockville.

The Vigo County Parks and Recreation Department will host the 25th Pancake Breakfast at the Fowler Park Log Barn Saturday, Feb. 19, and Sunday, Feb. 20, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

Adults will be served pancakes, sausage patties, pure maple syrup and a drink for $5. Cost for children 6-under is $2.

Fundraiser Scheduled

The fourth Bingo for Baskets Fundraiser will take place Friday, Feb. 25, at Cloverdale Middle School.

Doors to the event are scheduled to open at 6 p.m., with Bingo beginning at 6:30.

Those interested in attending must be 18 to play. Tickets are $15 for 20 games of Bingo.
