This year, the winner will receive a cash prize of $1,000 to assist with education, medical or other expenses.
Festivities will begin with a reception at 2:30 p.m., and will culminate that evening in a formal crowning ceremony in front of friends and relatives. The event is free to attend, with free parking. Families and friends of entrants are encouraged to attend.
All women must be between 21-60 and use a wheelchair or scooter 100 percent of the time. They must be a United States resident and must have resided in Indiana for the last six months.
Marital status is not an established criterion. Communication skills and advocacy of the disabled are specially valued.
The program gives voice to the disabled condition, provides a platform for advocacy and promotes understanding between the disabled and the able-bodied communities.
As Ms. Wheelchair Indiana, the title holder will have the opportunity to help educate the public, advocating for people with disabilities through media interviews and school, church and civic appearances. The reign will culminate at the Ms. Wheelchair America Pageant this summer in Michigan.
