He was at home and surrounded by family at the time of his passing. Jerry was a former resident of Brazil.
He was born July 23, 1938, in Arcola, Ill. Jerry's parents were the late Allen James and Anna Marie (Alhrich) Perkins.
He served as an E4 in the United States Navy from Oct. 31, 1955-July 22, 1959.
On Dec. 12, 1959, he married his sweetheart of 49 years, Carolyn "Sue" Bates, in a private ceremony in the chapel of the First Christian Church in Charleston, Ill. Sue preceded him in death on Aug. 27, 2009.
Jerry is survived by his daughter Lori Ann (husband Chester) Morgan, Nashville, sons Scott (wife Barb) Perkins, and Timothy (wife Julie) Perkins, both of Nashville, sister Helen (husband William) Burwell, Urbana, Ill., grandchildren Jeffrey Allen Morgan, Carmel, Elijah Scott Perkins, Kayla Elyse Perkins, Matthew Tyler Perkins, Michael Perkins and Samantha Perkins, all of Nashville.
He was preceded in death by sons Michael Perkins, and infant twins Matthew and Mark Perkins, and brothers Don, Paul, Linden and Burlie Perkins.
During his lifetime, he and his wife owned and operated Jerry J. Perkins and Sons Printing in Cory, Perfam Printing and Valley Printing, both in Brazil. They later moved to Brown County, where they owned Indiana Log Homes, Inc., for more than 25 years. Jerry and his wife also owned and operated Victoria House Bed and Breakfast and later the Great American Merchandising Co. Gift Shop. After retirement, he and Sue spent several years traveling.
Jerry was a member of the First Christian Church in Brazil. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and woodworking. He was an avid fan of John Wayne and western movies. Jerry was a gun collector and loved spending time with his family.
Family and friends will conduct a Celebration of Life service, at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 12, at the Faith Full Gospel Church, 6881 State Road 135, Brown County.
Friends may call from noon until service time at the church.
Military rites will be presented by the Brown County Honor Guard following the funeral service at the church.
A private family graveside service will take place at Mound Cemetery, Charleston, Ill.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith-Clark Funeral Home Cremation and Personalization Center in Morgantown, Ind.
