Mary Maxine Kumpf, 93, passed away Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio after a long battle with Alzheimer's.

She was born in Brazil, and graduated from Staunton High School.

In addition to taking care of her four daughter and husband, she worked in customer service positions for several companies, the longest tenure being with Balan's Elite Dry Cleaners in Washington, Ind., for 15 years.

During the 24 years that the family lived in Washington, Ind., she was very active in the First United Methodist Church.

Over the years, she was a member of several bridge clubs and was a very competitive card player.

She and her husband Earl enjoyed traveling. They had the opportunity to tour many foreign countries and did extensive domestic traveling. Although she worked outside of the home, Mary still helped her husband with a large garden of fruits and vegetables. She was a wonderful cook and loved having her family come home for holidays and large family meals.

Mary is survived by daughters Linda Kesselring (Richard), DeBary, Fla., Jacqueline Kuntz (Randy), Holland, Ohio, Vicki Hemmerlein (Bob), Greensboro, N.C., and Jane Zychowicz (Ralph), Toledo, Ohio, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years Earl, parents John and Hazel Hunt, Brazil, brothers Stanley and Bill, Brazil, and Melvin, Indianapolis, and sister Ruby Stephens, Indianapolis.

The family wishes to thank all the caregivers at Heatherdowns Rehabilitation and Residential Center and Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Toledo, for all the care and comfort that they gave to their mother.

A memorial service will take place this spring in Brazil.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Alzheimer's Association, 2500 N. Reynolds Rd., Toledo, Ohio, 43615.
