Board appoints pool manager

Thursday, February 10, 2011

The Brazil City Parks Board had only a few items on the agenda to consider during its meeting Tuesday night.

Some of the highlights included:

* Approving to appoint Amy Hardey as Forest Park Pool Manager for the summer of 2011,

* Making slight tweaks to contracts with organizations which utilize Forest Park,

* Giving permission to Park Superintendent Bill Houck to coordinate with Barrett's Excavating and Landscaping, Center Point, along with the Brazil City Sewer Department and park employees to improve the drainage system at Forest Park, particularly in the areas used by festivals for carnival and food stand purposes, and

* To accommodate the use of security cameras in Forest Park, the board approved a motion to allow Houck and park employee John Day upgrade the electrical system in the park office and log cabins.

The next meeting of the Brazil City Parks Board will be 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 8, in the Council Chambers at Brazil City Hall.

The article following last month's meeting of the park board mentioned a list of goals Bill Houck and his crew had for the parks for the next couple of years. I commented on the article noting that improving the drainage in Forest Park carnival/festival area was not on the list and my disappointment in that it was something that had been discussed in the past as being a focus point.

So obviously now I am very pleased to see that this has been added and moved very close to the top of the list. Maybe our comments here can have effects on moving things forward? Or maybe its just a coincidence. Either way, I am happy for the refocus on this particular need.

Good job Bill!

This have been in the works and on the list for along time.

It was not on the list of goals that was reported in the Times a month ago. That is what I was referencing.

I do know that it has been on the minds of several board members and Bill's for a long time, which is what has always made me wonder why it has taken this long.

Still, I'm happy to see it as a priority now.
