Richard Thomas Smith, 75, Brazil, passed away at Regional Hospital Feb. 14, 2011.

He was born Feb. 1, 1936, in Binghampton, N.Y., the son of Philip and Jennie Smith.

He graduated from Whitney Point Central with the class of 1955. Richard worked as a final assembler for Link Aviation from 1966-70, and then the Town of Triangle, New York, from 1970 until he retired in 1982.

Richard also served as a volunteer fireman in Broome County, N.Y., for 12 years.

Richard enjoyed woodworking as well as collecting John Deere tractors and fire trucks.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, four infant children, and father-in-law Dan Smith.

He is survived by his wife Judy Smith, Brazil, step-children Paula Hynek and husband Donald, Virginia, Pamela Coffman, Harmony, Ind., Lucille Brown and husband Jerry, Cloverdale, and James Parlett II, Terre Haute, daughter Teresa Smith, New York, mother-in-law Emma Smith, Brazil, 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will take place at French Funeral Home, Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at 1 p.m.
