As a longtime resident of Clay County, I have seen time and again the fine people of this county come through in a heroic fashion to help their neighbors in their times of need.

We never know when our own lives can take a drastic turn and we could be the ones needing assistance in some way.

With the way the economy is today, there are indeed times when we have to take care of each other and it becomes our time to step up, because if we don't help others out, who will?

On March 5, there will be yet another opportunity to help a friend in time of need.

Rick Neier, a lifelong resident and friend to many in the area, recently suffered a stroke and is currently in rehab.

Our wish for Rick is that he will have a full recovery, but until that time, the medical bills keep racking up and also every day, bills must be paid.

Rick's daughters, Carrie and Amy, invite you to join them at the Riddell National Bank downtown location March 5, from 3-6 p.m., as they along with friends and family have a chili supper to not only raise funds to help Rick out, but to encourage Rick and the family as he is looking forward to being there to greet and reunite with his family, friends and co-workers.

We appreciate the support of this community in times of need and here is another chance to help a friend out.

Thank you.
