A Brazil man was arrested after a winding pursuit involving eight law enforcement units in the northwestern part of Clay County late Saturday afternoon.

According to information provided by Clay County Sheriff's Department, a deputy spotted the driver of a vehicle apparently wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant near the intersection of County Road 425 West and United States 40 shortly before 5:30 p.m.

When the deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop, Samuel Allen Moran, 26, refused to stop. The pursuit traveled along US 40 to CR 300 W, northbound to SR 340 West, east to Kennedy Crossing Road, where several witnesses reported seeing Moran throw a small bag out of the vehicle window into the yard at Northview High School.

While officers from Brazil City Police Department stopped to "secure evidence and maintain the chain of custody," Moran continued to refuse to stop.

The pursuit continued north to CR 1200, then onto CR 400 W before turning onto CR 1350 N and heading back toward CR 500 W.

When the pursuit turned onto Kyle Avenue, officials said Moran finally "just gave up" when his vehicle sustained a damaged tire in an area near Jordan Street.

Moran was taken into custody and booked into the Clay County Justice Center on new preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement, possession of marijuana, hash oil and hashish, and possession with intent to deal.

According to information from the CCJC, Moran remains in custody on a $10,500 cash bond while awaiting formal court proceedings.
