Charges have been filed in connection with a recently released audit of the City of Brazil by the Indiana State Board of Accounts and investigation by Indiana State Police.

In regard to the water tower, the mayor hired an accounting firm out of Indianapolis - Umbaugh & Associates to take care of this project. This was not her accomplishment it was their's. This is the reason for the water rates increasing & the City of Brazil being in so much debt. How else was she going to pay someone else to do her job? Time to get someone more qualified as mayor. She has proven not to be.

The 2009 audit had definitely revealed some things about our city's finances.

1. Who approves all the expenses? The Mayor is on the Board of Works, so either the expenses weren't presented to the Board, or they are being approved without question.

2. I think further investigation needs to be done by the State Police into the audit whereby city funds were used for personal purchases. I think the Mayor should insist on this being done, and not tolerate it! It appears to make her look guilty by not pursuing this.

3. For clarification purposes, Tom Arthur started the Water Tower iniative in 2004 (brazil.in.gov website), but I give the mayor credit for seeing that through, albeit at the expense of 5.9 million dollars for the city.

4. I don't neccessarily agree that the Mayor is exempt from any responsibility. I am not saying that she did anything criminal, but any leader must follow the guidelines that are set forth by their Company or in this case, the city of Brazil and the state of Indiana. As Mayor, you are being entrusted to keep those policies and procedures in place, and if you and the Board of Works aren't protecting the city's assets, who will?

As tax payers, we should educate ourselves on the issues facing the city, get involved, and cast our vote wisely. Remember, we are paying the elected officals salary.

I love reading everyones comments, they are like comic books.

I for one know for sure that If I am the commander and one of my troops does something they shouldn't, I in turn will be the one held responsible. Wake up folks.. Also I will be relieved from my post.
