The North Clay wrestling team missed some early season meets due to inclement weather so the schedule began to heat up with a home match Wednesday night against visiting Owen Valley.

The Knights fell behind early, but overcame an 18-0 hole to score an 85-33 victory boosted by several forfeits in the upper weight classes.

North Clay dropped the first three matches of the evening by fall to dig the early deficit, but got on the board at 85 pounds with Cale McCoy's 14-3 major decision against Cody Hege. Jordan Richards followed up with a 5-3 victory against Isaac Miller.

Owen Valley took the next two weight classes by pin to boost its lead to 27-7 before the Knights got back on track.

Jacob Hendrich's quick fall over Trevor Hodge at 105 pounds came in just 25 seconds for the Knights and Stephen Gibson followed that up with a 12-7 win at 110. At 115 pounds, Blake Deaton continued the winning streak for North Clay by putting Eli Wilson on his back in 1:08 and Terry McGuffin gave North Clay its first lead with a 24-second pin.

At 145 pounds, Caleb Ellis earned an escape in the final seconds to edge Dakota Weber, 3-2 to put North Clay up 49-33 and Zach Hyde followed with a pin over Nate Henry in 44 seconds.

With a 55-33 lead, the Knights received forfeit wins in the final five classes as Kyle Shaffer, Waylon Layne, Chase Anderson, Curtis Stearley and Garrett Lessman were winners.

The Knights' busy schedule continues with a road trip to Martinsville tonight at 5:30 p.m. and a Saturday tourney at Southmont.
