The Clay County Health Department has available free smoking cessation counseling and smoking cessation products.

Money Tips

Come to Brazil Public Library and learn a fun way to save money.

Today, at 1:30 p.m. the Brazil Public Library, 204 N. Walnut St., will be having a Frugal Friends Party. Learn new places to find coupons and how to receive them. Bring your unwanted coupons, along with your favorite websites to share with others. The average coupon clipper saves $5 to $50 per week.

Frugal Friends Party will meet by the fireplace.

Meeting Set

The Clay County Historical Society will conduct its first meeting of the year at 7 p.m., today, in the lower level of the museum.

The guest speaker will be Ken Turner with the program, "Background on the life of Terre Haute brothers Paul Dresser and Theordore Dreiser.

Hoops for Hope

The "Hoops for Hope" charity basketball game will take place today at Northview High School. The Northview Staff takes on the North Clay Staff at 7:30 p.m.

There will be half-time entertainment by and "oldster" hoops band, guard girls and cheerleading squads and some well-known local celebrities will be the referees.

The proceeds will be used to support the upcoming 2011 Clay County American Cancer Society's Relay For Life event.

'Once Upon A Mattress'

The Community Theatre of Clay County's next performance, "Once Upon A Mattress," has been scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The musical is based on the story of "The Princess and The Pea," written by Hans Christian Andersen.

Single dinner theatre tickets cost $25, which includes a buffet dinner and show. Tickets may be purchased by calling 442-6909.

Reservations are required for all performances.


House of Hope, a Division of Mission Teens, Inc., will host an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast Saturday.

The event will take place at the YMCA of Clay County, 225 E. Kruzan St., Brazil, and will run from 8 a.m.-noon.

A $5 donation will cover each person served.

All proceeds will go toward expenses associated with building renovations.


The musical drama, "Dead Serious ... About Life," will take place Saturday and Sunday, at Clay City High School.

The event is scheduled for 6 p.m., Saturday, March 12, and 2 p.m., Sunday, March 13.

For ticket information about the performance, call 1-800-459-7268. Tickets cost $8 in advance and $9 at the door.

Tickets will be pre-sold until Thursday, March 10.

Make A Card!

The Brazil Public Library will host a beginning card making class at 6 p.m., Thursday, March 17.

Those attending will make two handmade greeting cards.

Cost for the class is $5. Pre-registration and pre-payment are required.

Certification Testing

The Indiana Onsite Waste Water Professionals Association (IOWPA) 2011 Certification Training Registration is coming to Clay County Monday, March 21.

The event will take place from 9 a.m.-noon, and is a review of changes to the 410 Rule.

The IOWPA test will take place from 1-5 p.m. IOWPA certified earns 2.5 CEUs.

The event will take place at Glory Days Restaurant, 802 Main ST., Clay City.

Registration forms for the event may be obtained from the Clay County Soil and Water Conservation District, 955 W. Craig Ave., Brazil.

Hours are 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday. In addition, a form may be e-mailed by calling 448-1108 Ext. 3.
