This year, students got a workout to go with it.
Students at the school were invited to take part in "Souper Fitness Day," Friday.
To take part, children had to bring in a canned good. The canned good allowed the students to take part in Zumba workouts with YMCA of Clay County fitness instructor and former Indianapolis Colts' cheerleader Mara Mayle.
Staunton Student Council advisors Marci Nussel and Denise Brush helped coordinate the event. All the canned goods brought in were to be taken to the Staunton Food Pantry.
"The goal was to raise enough canned goods for the local food pantry," Nussel said.
Nussel added there was close to 100 percent participation from the students for the event.
"The amount of canned goods was amazing," she said.
Nussel said the school contributes canned goods to the local food pantry annually, but this year, wanted to get the students more involved with the exercise routines.
