Pat Forslund, 78, residing in South Bend, Ind., passed away at 10 a.m., Sunday, March 13, 2011, in Caring Junction, South Bend.

She was born Oct. 9, 1923, in Carbon, to Lawrence Earl and Caroline (Powell) Thomas.

On Dec. 21, 1984, in South Bend, she married John William Forslund, who survives.

Mrs. Forslund is also survived by her daughter Debra Vanett, Portland, Ore., sons John (Candace) Forslund, Mishawaka, Ind., Jay (Christine) Forslund, Mishawaka, Ind., and Jerry Forslund, South Bend, grandchildren Laci (La-Quan) Pope, Josie Sprecher, Jeffrey (Marisa) Huff, Shane (Caitie), Evan, Eric, Ian, Seth, Leah and Spencer Forslund, great-grandchildren Timothy, Tyler and Vivian Huff, and Ethan Forslund, sisters Ida Mae Shelton, Terre Haute, and Barbara (Louis) LaCosse, South Bend, and brother Lawrence "Tom" Thomas, South Bend.

A son, Larry D. Vanett, sister Kathleen Shields, and brothers David and Tom Thomas preceded her in death.

Mrs. Forslund retired in 1990 as an operator for Indiana Bell after 30 years of service.

She was a member of the Pioneers of America and the Moose Auxiliary. She was an officer for the St. Joseph County City Labor Board and past president of the CWA, South Bend.

She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.

Mrs. Forslund loved visiting with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also loved going to the Blue Chip Casino.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m., Friday, March 18, 2011, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger, 3718 S. Michigan St., South Bend, Ind. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Thursday, in the funeral home, and 10-11 a.m., Friday.
