She was born in Jasonville, on her family's dairy farm, Sept. 14, 1919, the daughter of Earl and Orlena (Hurst) Rich.
Alene graduated from Midland School. She was a member of the American Legion Post 225 Ladies Auxillary and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6606 Ladies Auxillary, as well as the Seniors Citizens Club in Clay City.
She is survived by two daughters Louise and husband Dewey Griffith, Kimberling City, Mo., and Myra and husband Mick Neiswinger, Clay City, two sons Larry Joe and wife Dawn Haviland, Sandy Valley, Nev., and Carl and wife Polly Haviland, Clay City, 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Opal Rich, Attica, and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Alene married Floyd Haviland January 3, 1938, he preceded her in death on June 22, 1991. Also preceding her in death was her son Floyd Haviland Jr., twelve brothers and sisters, a grandson Christopher Haviland and great granddaughter Haley Bryan.
Services will be at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, at 1 p.m., Wednesday March 23, 2011. Burial will follow at Beech Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Wednesday, from 11 a.m. until time of services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VFW National Home for Children 3573 S.
