At approximately 5:30 p.m., Sunday, Clay County Sheriff Mike Heaton received notice that a Coalmont man had been taken to the Greene County Hospital after suffering several lacerations and a possible broken arm.
The man, Wesley Sapp, Coalmont, was later flown to Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, for treatment of injuries sustained after another man with a machete allegedly attacked him.
"As far as the extent of the injuries, we haven't heard yet," Heaton told The Brazil Times. "But we know (a cut) went down to the bone."
According to Heaton, Sapp and Robert William Scott Jeffrey, 36, Linton, were allegedly in an argument regarding the use of a car. According to witnesses, as the argument ensued, Jeffrey allegedly began swinging at Sapp with a machete.
Heaton said the Sullivan County Sheriff's Department took the call, but Clay County deputies were also on scene.
Jeffrey was arrested and taken to the Clay County Justice Center and booked on preliminary charges of aggravated battery.
According to information provided by jail officials, Jeffrey remained in custody Monday morning on a $25,000 cash bond while awaiting court proceedings.
