The following is a list of upcoming events provided to The Brazil Times:

In Honor

Donations are still being accepted to add PSgt. Harold Dickerson's name to the Vietnam War Memorial at the Clay County Courthouse.

Veterans Service Officer Mike Holland said a re-dedication for the memorial will take place at 9 a.m., Saturday, May 7, as part of Loyalty Day festivities, with District 44 State Representative Jim Baird as a special guest.

In addition, donations are being accepted for the creation of a Gulf War/Sept. 11, 2001 memorial, which would include Marine Cpl. Gregory Stultz, who died in combat, Feb. 19, 2010.

Donations to either memorial may be sent to the Clay County Veterans Service Office, 609 E. National Ave., Room 104, Brazil, Ind., 47834.

Embroidery Class

The Brazil Public Library will host a Beginner's Hand Embroidery class at 2 p.m., Monday, April 11.

Pre-registration of $2 is required and those interested in attending must pre-register by April 6.

Basic embroidery stitches will be taught during the event. In addition, those attending will learn how to enhance their crafts, personal gifts or keepsakes.

Flower Removal

Officials with Calcutta Cemetery are asking that all old flowers and decorations be removed from gravesites before April 15.

BCPD Applications

The Brazil City Police Department is accepting applications for the position of police officer.

Applicants must be at least 21, but not 36, successfully completed a physical agility test and have a clear criminal record.

Applicants must also possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

Applications may be picked up at the Brazil City Police Department, 22 S. Washington St., Brazil, between March 21-April 3.

Applications must be completed and returned by April 3.

Classes Available

The Clay County Health Department has available free smoking cessation counseling and smoking cessation products.

Diabetes Classes

The Brazil Senior Citizens Center and the Clay County Health Department have teamed together to offer diabetes education classes at the center.

The meetings will take place on the first Friday of the month at noon.

Applications

The Mayor's office at Brazil City Hall will be accepting applications for lifeguard, assistant manager and cashier positions for the 2011 summer season at Forest Park until Friday, April 15.

Diabetes Classes

St. Vincent Clay Hospital's next class on Diabetes Education, "What You Should Know About Type 2 Diabetes," will take place from 6-7 p.m., March 30 and April 6.

Class size is limited and are provided free of charge.

Book Sale

The Friends of the Library will conduct a book sale Friday, Saturday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Meeting Set

The Common Council of the City of Brazil will conduct a meeting at 3 p.m., Friday, at City Hall in Council Chambers.

The annexation ordinance will be discussed and the public is welcome to attend.

Coffee Talk

The Rotary Club of Brazil will host its monthly Coffee and Club Talk Friday at The Brazil Coffee Company, 533 E. National Ave., Brazil.

The first regular cup of coffee will be free for those in attendance, courtesy of the club.

The public is welcome to attend the event, which is scheduled for 6-7 p.m.

Food Drive

The Church of Our Lord Jesus, 708 E. Hendrix St., Brazil, will conduct its monthly food drive from 1-3 p.m., Saturday, at the church.

Fundraiser

The 2011 Clay County American Cancer Society Relay For Life "Team Pappy's" have scheduled two upcoming fundraisers.

The team captain is Kathy Bell.

On Monday, March 28, Pappy's Bar-B-Que, 111 E. National Ave., Brazil, will donate 10 percent of its sales to Relay For Life. A special brownie sundae will also be available for a small donation to the event.

On Saturday, April 2, the team will conduct a Relay For Life scrapbooking crop event from 9 a.m.-9 p.m., at Traditions, 105 E. National Ave., Brazil.

Cost is $10 per person, with door prizes, make and takes and games available.

All proceeds will be used to support Relay For Life.

Snacks, drinks and a sandwich will be available for lunch with pizza possibly being made available for supper.

Meeting Changed

The Brazil Golf Board has rescheduled its March meeting date.

The board normally meets on the third Monday of each month. However, the board will meet Monday, March 28, at 7 p.m., at Forest Park Golf Course Club House.

The public is invited to attend the meeting.

Crafts!

The Brazil Public Library will host a "Make and Take Youth Craft Program," Thursday, March 31.

Youth 10-under are invited to make a paper kite wall decoration. Supplies and an instructor will be available anytime between 6-7:30 p.m.

The program is free.

Celebration Dinner

The 50th John L. Lewis Day Celebration Dinner will take place Friday, April 1.

The event will take place at 11 a.m. (Central Standard Time) at the Oakland City American Legion, 211 E. Washington St., Oakland City, Ind.

All retired miners and their spouses as well as widows and widowers of retired miners are welcome to attend.

Meeting Moved

The Center Point Town Council has moved its April meeting.

Due to scheduling conflicts, the meeting will take place at 9 a.m., Saturday, April 2, at town hall.

All are welcome to attend.

Frugal Friends

Frugal Friends -- Coupon Savers -- will meet at the Brazil Public Library at 11 a.m., Monday, April 4, by the fireplace.

Those interested in attending will learn how to hunt, swap and shop for favorite items and are invited to bring unwanted coupons to trade.

Local Fair

The House of Hope has scheduled a local fair for Saturday, April 9, at First Christian Church.

The event will take place from 4-8 p.m.

It will feature RideTheWind, Decree and P-150 as entertainment, a silent auction, chili dinner and several other refreshments, along with a bake sale, testimonies, a 50-50 raffle and more.
