Because every life has a story

Wednesday, March 30, 2011

Recognizing and honoring the experience, wisdom and wealth of knowledge our older citizens provide to our community and families is important, which is why The Brazil Times is looking for information about Clay County's older citizens.

Every family has interesting stories in their past.

Maybe a family elder lived next door to Jimmy Hoffa, knew John Dillinger personally, served in the military with Gens. Jimmy Doolittle or George S. Patton, sang on Broadway or was in films during the early days of Hollywood or even was a sports or political notable. Maybe an elder was involved in creating a medical breakthrough, developed new technology, influenced history working to help women acquire the right to vote or fought hard for civil rights.

Clay County has a rich history because of its residents.

The editorial staff at The Times is asking readers to provide information about the achievements of their male and female friends and family members, including categories such as:

* Oldest Clay County-born resident or citizen,

* Oldest set of Clay County twins,

* Oldest living person featured as The Brazil Times' Baby New Year,

* Oldest veteran,

* Oldest practicing doctor/nurse,

* Oldest former teacher,

* Oldest business owner,

* Oldest active farmer,

* Oldest cancer survivor,

* Oldest social club/organization, and

* Oldest homestead that has stayed within one family in the community.

To provide information about these categories, or any other suggestions, contact The Brazil Times' editorial department during normal business hours at 446-2216.

This is a super idea! Wish you a lot of success and looking forward to reading the articles. My mom lived by Jimmy Hoffa near Sherman and Central, but she's passed away. I know a few who should have stories on Orville(Redenbarger) Redenbacher. He graduated BHS, I believe, circa 1924.

GREAT IDEA . . . Hope this results in a number of informative, long-running, front page stories, with photos.
