INDIANAPOLIS -- In an effort to recruit as many talented musicians as possible, the 500 Festival has extended the registration deadline for the 500 Festival Play it Again Band to Friday, April 15.

The Play it Again Band will be composed of former high school and college band members interested in reliving the thrill of marching in the locally and nationally televised IPL 500 Festival Parade in front of nearly 300,000 spectators.

Each band member will receive a commemorative T-shirt and hat to be worn during their parade appearance. Members of the Play it Again Band will also have an opportunity to play in the Parade of Bands at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Sunday, May 29, before the start of the Indianapolis 500.

Participants will travel the full 2.5-mile oval.

In order to participate in the inaugural year for the Play it Again Band, those interested must be 18-older and must have marched in one of the 53 previous 500 Festival Parades. Participants must also provide and be able to play their own instrument and march the length of the two-mile parade route. For $20, band members will receive a commemorative shirt and hat, along with breakfast and lunch on parade day.

The 2011 IPL 500 Festival Parade will be televised nationally on VERSUS Cable Network and locally on WISH-TV.
