The Northview girls' tennis team will try to resuscitate their success of old after their five-year streak of sectional titles came to a bitter end last year against Owen Valley, 3-2. The Knights will try to recapture the winning ways that brought them eight sectional titles in the last 10 years. It will be an uphill challenge, however, as the Knights retain just one of their top three singles players and one of their doubles players.

First-year head coach Laura McCrea is up to the task. "Definitely winning sectional as a team and getting that regional experience," McCrea said of Northview's objectives this season. "We have a lot of younger girls so getting them to step up and be ready to play at a varsity level. They've all done really well at that. They've been working really hard."

The Knights are a younger team, with only four seniors out of a 19-girl team.

This is McCrea's first season as head coach, after spending last season as an assistant coach for Northview.

"(The transition) has been really easy," McCrea said. "(Previous coach Emily Goss) has done a great job, and I'm just filling in for her this year during the interim. She had everything planned out well so from being her assistant has been easy. She had everything ready to go."

Northview is only returning two varsity girls, senior Kaci Kehrt and junior Briana Cook.

Kehrt is coming off a stellar sectional performance, winning her singles match in a 7-6, 6-3 decision.

Cook won her doubles match in sectional play a year ago. She advanced to the Carmel regional before falling to Brownsburg's team, 7-6, (7-4), 6-0.

The Knights' lineup this season will be determined my ongoing challenge matches.

"As a team, everybody's going to have to step up." McCrea said.

The future looks bright for Northview's season as junior Trisha Cox and senior Taylor Keiser return after a promising junior varsity season that included an 8-0 win against Terre Haute North. Cox and Keiser won their doubles match in an 8-0 decision.

The Knights' senior group this season are Kehrt, Miranda Brossman, Meredith Heffner and Keiser.

The junior group for Northview consists of Cook, Cox, Kylee Orr, Jenna Smith, Kyley Clark, Kelsey Oehler, Caitlyn Mager and Hillary Thomas.

The sophomores on the Knights' team are Nicole Linton, Haley Leach and Whitney Scott.

Finally, the freshmen on Northview's squad include Shelby Timberman, Brooke Dean, Katie Girton and Audrey Fatch.
