For 30 years, I served you as window clerk at the Brazil Post Office.
After retirement, I decided that I would like to continue to work with the citizens of Brazil.
I was elected Brazil Township Trustee in 2010. Since then, I have cut administrative costs by 58 percent, thus allocating more funds for community assistance.
As Mayor, I will ensure three things: That budgets and reports are submitted in a timely manner; that the city's funds are used for the benefit of our citizens; and that every function of the Mayor's Office is completed with accountability and transparency.
A lifelong resident of Brazil, I graduated from Brazil High School in 1973 and attended Indiana State University. I served 13 years in the Security Police of the Indiana Air National Guard, attaining the position of Flight Chief. I was named Distinguished Honor Graduate from Security Police Technical Training School, for which I received the Indiana State Commendation Medal.
I am a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Farm Bureau, Community Theatre, Brazil Concert Band and Jackson Township Band.
My parents were involved in local politics. My father, Bill, ran for Sheriff, and my mother, Jean, served two terms on the City Council. My brother, Bill, owns Heads and Tales Barbershop.
My wife, Susan, our grandchildren, David and Chris Swearingen, and I, own the McGregor House Bed and Breakfast and Antique Shop in Brazil.
Susan is Vice President of Community Theatre.
We have two sons, former Coroner Rick Swearingen Jr. (Sherri), Navy AET2 Zachary Sneddon (Stephanie), and five other grandchildren, Ashley, Richard, Tamera, Cody Swearingen and Che Babb.
I look forward to serving the people of Brazil. I appreciate and need your support.
