A Vigo County man died as a result of injuries sustained during a two-vehicle accident Sunday evening.
According to information provided by E911 Dispatch at the Clay County Justice Center, the accident was reported around 5:25 p.m., Sunday.
According to information provided by the Clay County Sheriff's Department, Raymond Johnson, 31, Terre Haute, was traveling east on County Road 1200 North. After stopping at the intersection to State Road 59, Johnson apparently preceded into the roadway of a 1988 Honda motorcycle, operated by Tim Hayes, 52, Terre Haute.
Members of Clay County Sheriff's Department, Brazil City Police Department, Dick Johnson and Van Buren Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the accident.
Clay County Sheriff Mike Heaton said Hayes, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the motorcycle.
Heaton confirmed Johnson passed a field sobriety test at the scene and reported no injuries.
Due to the injuries sustained as a result of the crash, Hayes was pronounced dead at the scene by Clay County Coroner Joel Reinoehl.
State Road 59 was temporarily closed as emergency personnel worked the scene. According to reports, the investigation is ongoing.
An autopsy, which is a standard protocol during an investigation into an accident fatality, has been arranged today at Terre Haute Regional Hospital to help determine the cause of death.
