Abduction attempted in Turner

Friday, April 15, 2011

Officials are looking for information in the ongoing investigation of attempted child abduction in Clay County Thursday evening.

According to a press release from the Clay County Sheriff's Department, the incident occurred in a rural part of the county just south of Turner.

E-911 dispatchers were notified of the incident shortly after 7 p.m., Thursday.

On Friday, Sheriff Mike Heaton told The Brazil Times an unidentified 8-year-old girl provided investigators with a detailed description of the incident, the suspect and the vehicle he was driving.

According to the girl's statement, a tall black man got out of his vehicle near her home and asked her to get into his vehicle. The child said she immediately ran to her home and notified an adult. However, the suspect fled the area before adults could get outside.

The tall black male is described as having a thin build, wearing a white T-shirt and having black hair.

The suspect was reported driving a tan-colored passenger car, possibly resembling a Chevrolet Corsica, with a set of black dice hanging from the rear view mirror, missing a front passenger side headlight. It was last seen traveling west on County Road 600 North toward the Staunton area.

After officials released information about the case to the public Friday afternoon, an unidentified local resident saw the report on a local television station and contacted the CCSD. The caller reported seeing a man in a vehicle matching the same descriptions provided by the girl approximately three miles east of Brazil on United States 40.

If anyone has information regarding this case, or any other, contact the Clay County Sheriff's Department at 446-2535.
