Clay County Retired Teachers will have a Spring Social on Tuesday, April 26, starting at 6 p.m. The group will meet at the Riddell Bank Basement. The agenda includes a barbeque supper, election of officers, raffle, door prizes, featured speaker, and updates on current legislations affecting retired teachers.
Jim Albright will talk about his book, Last Guard Out. Although Albright currently lives in Terre Haute, he was a guard at Alcatraz. He will have books available for purchase and will autograph any copies that people bring to the Social.
Anyone wishing to contribute a side dish or dessert at the Social would certainly be encouraged. Mary Ann Frodermanis making enough baked beans for 50 people. Rachel Fagg, Donna Kaufman, and I have teamed up to prepare the potato salad for everyone.
Salads, veggies, or desserts would be appreciated at our spring meeting but are certainly not required. The most important thing is to get together with former colleagues and friends for a nice evening.
Harmony and Lena United Methodist Churches are planning a trip to the Creation Museum in Hebron, Kentucky on Saturday, June 18. The museum tells the Bible stories from Genesis through Noah's Ark. It is all done through incredible animatronics. I haven't seen it yet but it sounds exciting. Noah's Ark won't be completed until perhaps 2012 but there is still plenty to see.
On the acres and acres of ground around the Creation Museum, guests can visit the Peace Gardens, Planetarium, Petting Zoo, and Adams Theater. Pastor Terry Jeffers has been bringing back such enthusiasm for the project that we have all gotten excited about the trip.
We will board the Turner Coach at Harmony UMC at 6:45 a.m. and plan to pull out at 7 a.m. We should arrive at the museum around 10 a.m. Pastor has a video to show on the bus so that we will be familiar with some of the things we will see when we arrive.
United Methodist Women will provide a breakfast snack and morning devotions on the bus. The group will meet back at the bus around 4 p.m., make a stop at Cracker Barrel for supper, and arrive back at HUMC about 8 p.m.
Turner has given us a good price for the day. It includes the transportation and admission to the museum. They will deliver us right to the entrance. Adults are $76. Senior Citizens get a price break for $70. Anyone wishing to also see the Planetarium can pay for that admission on their own. Everyone will be on their own for meals at the park and at Cracker Barrel, too.
Information sheets and entry forms will be available at the churches this Sunday. Money and forms must be in to me by May 12. We have to reserve the bus and have everything paid one month prior to the trip. The trip is not restricted to just our churches. Anyone who would like to go, please contact Pastor Terry, call one of the churches, or let me know.
Harmony United Methodist Church will host an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 23 starting at 11 a.m. Lena will have their egg hunt at 2 p.m.

Everyone is invited to attend the Good Friday Service at Harmony UMC starting at 6:30 p.m. We will have a Worship Service followed by a re-affirmation of baptism. Anyone can renew their baptism at this time whether you regularly attend out church or another.
Rita Jones is organizing a soup and sandwich supper after the Good Friday Service. I heard one of the soups would be potato and the sandwiches would be egg salad and ham salad. I heard there was a second soup but didn't hear what it was.
Lena UMC will hold the Sunrise Service on Easter morning starting at 6:30 a.m. They will have breakfast following the service.
HUM Women will have a Mother/ Daughter Banquet on Monday, May 2 at 6:30 p.m. Betty Julbert's granddaughter Ainsley will prepare a dance for us. Siddalee Clark, daughter of Dave and Jenifer, will sing the song, "Mother." The theme this year is "Thank Heaven for Little Girls".
Those attending the banquet are asked to bring a covered dish: salad, vegie, or dessert. Meat, drinks, and rolls will be provided. Rose Marie Pell is baking a pork loin. Pastor Terry and Becky are fixing the chicken breasts.
Ladies have been encouraged to bring little girl pictures of themselves and the little ladies in their lives. Pastor Terry is putting together a PowerPoint presentation to show during the banquet.
Harmony will hold its annual town wide clean-up on Saturday, April 23. Members of the Town Council will have arranged for dumpsters to be available for anyone who needs to dispose of almost any yard waste. This is the time to get rid of larger pieces, too.
Take your trash to the VB Township Firehouse between the hours of 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The rain date will be April 30. Except for large items like tables or refrigerators, the trash should be placed in plastic bags.
Tires are accepted but you will be charged $2 for those. Most everything else is free. This is for Harmony residents only. We have a great little town. Let's keep it that way and get it all spruced up for Easter.

I just have to share the results of my recent medical tests. Every year I expect to have lost weight, and seldom does it happen, but I must be doing some things right. Heart test was good. Carotids don't need to be checked for two years. There were no signs of diabetes. Cholesterol was down. One number needs to be a little higher but I'm good. It may not show up on the scale but those results definitely lifted a weight.
Happy Birthday Erie Bell (22nd), Debbie Jones (24th), Gail Weaver (27th), Mitch Maurer (28th), Damien Tackett (29th).
