Notification

The City of Brazil is setting up an e-mail notification system for water-related happenings, such as boil orders.

To sign up for the notification, contact the Water Office at 448-1539, or e-mail brazilwater@brazil.in.gov.

Relay Reminder

Team Leader Maggie Morlan for "Jackson and Friends Relay Team" would like to let parents of students and faculty members at Jackson Township Elementary School know about the upcoming fundraising events at the school:

* Bracelet sales will be from 10:40-11:45 a.m., Friday.

All funds will benefit the 2011 Clay County American Cancer Society's Relay For Life event, set for May 14-15 at the YMCA of Clay County.

Scholarship!

The Clay County Extension Homemakers are offering a scholarship for Clay County students. They have extended a wider eligibility for students.

Guidance counselors at Northview, Clay City and Shakamak high schools have the applications and qualifications for eligibility.

Applications are due on or before May 1, at the Extension Office.

Those interested must apply to qualify.

Choir members needed

A Brazil Community Children's Choir will be formed to perform at the July 4 celebration at Forest Park Monday, July 4, along with the Brazil Community Choir.

Children ages 9-12 are needed.

Rehearsals begin Wednesday, May 4, at Bee Ridge Church, north of State Road 340 on Kennedy's Crossing Road.

In Honor

Donations are still being accepted to add PSgt. Harold Dickerson's name to the Vietnam War Memorial at the Clay County Courthouse.

Veterans Service Officer Mike Holland said a re-dedication for the memorial will take place at 9 a.m., Saturday, May 7, as part of Loyalty Day festivities, with District 44 State Representative Jim Baird as a special guest.

In addition, donations are being accepted for the creation of a Gulf War/Sept. 11, 2001 memorial, which would include Marine Cpl. Gregory Stultz, who died in combat, Feb. 19, 2010.

Donations to either memorial may be sent to the Clay County Veterans Service Office, 609 E. National Ave., Room 104, Brazil, Ind., 47834.

Heavy Trash

The City of Brazil's Sanitation Department will conduct heavy trash pickup on the following Fridays in April, based on normal trash pickup schedule:

* Friday -- Thursday's trash route.

Heavy trash pickup must be reserved and may be done by calling City Hall at 443-2221 or the Brazil City Street Department at 448-8501.

Open House

An open house to celebrate the 30-year anniversary of the Clay County WIC Program will take place Wednesday.

The event will run from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., and will take place at the Clay County WIC Office, 972 W. Craig Ave., Brazil.

All are invited to attend. Snacks, giveaways and games will be offered.

'Grease'

The Northview High School Drama Department will perform "Grease" Friday and Saturday, at the school auditorium.

The show will be performed Friday, April 29, at 7:30 p.m., and 2 and 7:30 p.m., Saturday, April 30.

Seating will be reserved. Tickets may be purchased in advance through the Northview Media Center or by calling 448-2661 Ext. 1235.

Ticket prices are $8 for adults and $5 for students.
