Area 7 Agency on Aging and Disabled sets up picnic

The Area 7 Agency on Aging and Disabled will host its annual Area Day Senior Citizens Picnic Friday, May 27, at Forest Park in Brazil.

The picnic will begin at 10 a.m., in the park pavilion with the National Anthem and opening of exhibit/service booths and small games.

The picnic is open to persons 50-older and the cost is $8 per person.

Ticket cost includes entertainment, lunch, small games, goodie bag, exhibit booths, snacks and the opportunity to win door prizes.

The menu for this year's picnic is ham and cheese on a sub roll, potato salad and a chocolate chip cookie.

This year's meal is sponsored by the businesses of Sunset Harbor, Inc., Meadows Home Health Care, Meadows and Manor East, Meadows Manor North and Cannon Inn.

The annual event will conclude at 2 p.m.

Reservations must be made in advance on or before May 20. Send check or money order payable to WCIEDD, Inc., along with completed form -- which has been running in The Brazil Times -- to Area Day Reservation, 1718 Wabash Ave., Terre Haute, Ind., 47807.

Tickets may also be purchased in the WCIEDD office, 1718 Wabash Ave., Terre Haute, from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday.

No ticket costs will be refunded after May 16.

Van transportation is available in Parke, Vermillion and Vigo counties on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Cost is $8 for the roundtrip to Brazil in addition to the $8 ticket for the picnic.

For the second year in a row, a grand prize drawing at the picnic will take place for two reservations for an upcoming trip to Branson, Mo., in October.

In addition, the sounds of Elvis will be heard in Forest Park as Bruce Borders will take the stage. Melony Brown will also return to the picnic to entertain.

All ticket purchasers will also receive a T-shirt.

In addition, a special treat this year will be banana splits. Various local businesses will sponsor the treat.

This is a great thing to have for our Seniors and disabled. May I suggest that functions such as this would be better if they were held the first week of the month since most of the elderly and disabled would be more financially able to enjoy this type of function. In todays economy with the price of gas etc .I know that 16.00 dollars is not all that much but if you are on a fixed income it might be. Just a suggestion..
