He was born May 14, 1940, in Greencastle, the son of Stanley L. Cope and Elnora Green Cope.
He was raised in Clay County and graduated from Van Buren High School, class of 1958.
Rex and Lynn Ann Spence Cope were married and together they raised their family in Brazil.
Lynn Ann died suddenly July 7, 2003.
Rex spent the majority of his working years in sales with the Eckrich Company, retiring in 2000.
Rex enjoyed playing cards, especially poker, with his "Thursday night" friends. He was an avid bowler and loved the game of golf. He worked part-time at the Forest Park Golf Course and he played golf every chance he could. He had been a member of the Jaycee's in years past.
On Nov. 6, 2007, Rex married Suellen Myers Levy Cope. She survives.
Other survivors include his children Melanie Lutes and husband Greg, Brazil, Brent Cope and wife Jana, Evansville, and Jeff Cope and wife Dawn, Brazil, Scott Levy and wife Susan, Bloomington, Sean Levy, Marshall, Ill., and B.J. Levy, Chicago, grandchildren Elizabeth Hoffman (Seth), Emilee Biddle (Butch), Ryan Lutes, Austin Cope, Andrew Cope, Alaina Cope, Kayleigh Cope, Allison Levy, Anne Levy, and Dustin Levy, great-grandchildren Kolton Biddle and Isaiah Hoffman, sisters Nancy Cox and husband Millard, Brazil, Debby Clingerman and husband Dean, and brother Nick Cope, all of Brazil, brother-in-law Dennis and Mary Myers, South Carolina, several nieces, nephews and extended family.
At his request, private family services will take place and burial of ashes will take place at a later date.
