Harmony Happenings

Wednesday, April 27, 2011

Good Friday Services went very well at Harmony United Methodist Church. Fifty people came out that evening and most renewed their baptism vows. Rita Jones acted as coordinator for a soup and sandwich supper after the service. There were big pots of vegetable and potato soups. This was accompanied by chicken, ham, and egg salads sandwiches. Homemade cookies were the finishing touches. Thanks to the terrific cooks.

We had to share song books on Easter morning. That is always a good sign. We had over 100 at Worship Service. That is a full house for our small church but we'll always make room for more next Sunday. Come on down!

Harmony and Lena United Methodist Churches are planning a trip to the Creation Museum in Hebron, Kentucky on Saturday, June 18. I did finish the flyer and the traveler info sheet.

Thanks to Secretary Marsha Nicoson for printing the copies. They are available at both churches. I need the info sheets and payments by May 12.

We will board the Turner Coach at Harmony UMC at 6:45 a.m., and plan to pull out at 7 a.m. We should arrive at the museum around 10 a.m. Pastor has a video to show on the bus so that we will be familiar with some of the things we will see when we arrive.

United Methodist Women had planned to do the morning devotions and prepare snacks for the trip. HUMW needed to make plans for Women's Sunday, Mother/Daughter Banquet, Museum trip, and Yard Sale. Our Monday night meeting might have lasted into Tuesday but Pastor decided to help us out. He will do the trip devotions and provide the breakfast snacks.

Turner has given us a good price for the day. It includes the transportation and admission to the museum. They will deliver us right to the entrance. Adults are $76. Senior Citizens get a price break for $70. Anyone wishing to also see the Planetarium can pay for that admission on their own. Everyone will be on their own for meals at the park and at Cracker Barrel, too.

The Mother/Daughter Banquet at HUMC will be Monday, May 2, at 6:30 p.m. Ladies are asked to bring a covered dish (additional dishes for guests). We need salads, vegies, and desserts. Erie Bell will bake the homemade rolls. Rose Marie Pell will prepare a pork loin and Pastor Terry and Becky Jeffers will fix chicken breasts. HUMW will provide the drinks. I think we are providing the table service, too but will have to check on that.

We will circulate the sign-up sheet during Worship Service again this Sunday. Some ladies needed to check with family to see for sure who all would be coming. We always have a good attendance at the banquet. Mayme Johnson-Cox is planning table settings for close to 60 ladies.

Betty Julbert's granddaughter Ainsley will dance for us at the banquet. Siddalee Clark will sing and Betty Julbertwill read a poem. Sheila Termeerwill have some door prizes. Pastor Terry has been working on a PowerPoint of the various childhood pictures that the ladies have given him. It should be a very nice evening. Mark your calendar for May 2.

I will have more information on the HUMW meeting next week and also on the Retired Teacher's meeting. Both of those were this week and it is close to deadline time at the Times.

Reminders: Save change for Crisis Pregnancy Center. Save pull tabs for Ronald MacDonald, Save Pepsi screw tops for SOS. Save everything sellable for the yard sale on June 4. Thanks to Harriet for bringing all the nice clothes, some still had price tags.

Ken Garrison called last night to say he had saved up a bunch of pop caps forus to use for SOS. Apparently, he is quite a fan of Diet Pepsi. He is also donating books for the yard sale. It is much appreciated, Ken.

Serving on the Streets (SOS) is an organization that assists our local people. They help kids with backpacks, shoes, homework, and providing wholesome activities. They are trying to get a shelter started for battered women. Save those caps, folks. We need them.
